Some help with planning your adventure around New Zealand
Starting from Auckland head north. If you only have a day drive to Warkworth and visit the wineries of Matakana and the Marine Reserve at Goat Island, Leigh.
If you have more time, allow a few days and drive north to Russell or Paihia. See the Bay of Islands and understand why fisherman Zane Grey loved this area.
Head back to Auckland and drive south, roughly 3 hours to Taupo or Rotorua. Rotorua is where you will find geysers and a lot of Maori culture. In Taupo see Huka Falls. Further on from Taupo is National Park where you can ski in winter or walk the Tongariro Crossing in summer.
Drive east and you’ll come to the Hawkes Bay where many of New Zealand’s famous wines are made. You’ll find the famous Cape Kidnappers golf course here as well as a bird sanctuary.
If you have another week, a trip to the South Island will stun you. If you liked the scenery in Lord of the Rings see it for yourself in the South Island. Head north from Christchurch and squeeze in a boat trip to see the whales at Kaikoura. Head south from Christchurch for Wanaka, Queenstown and see some of the most beautiful scenery in the world.
From Queenstown you can drive or bus to Milford Sound and see the incredible fiords.
If you have any questions about what to fit in and how to get about, feel free to email us. We will try to reply within 3 days.
JUCY Snooze – a green hotel
JUCY has been carrying out eco-friendly practices for many years. Each year as part of an annual assessment, new initiatives will be introduced to make the hotel more sustainable. Staff are encouraged to contribute ideas on how the hotel can reduce, re-use or recycle more and any other ‘green’ practices are encouraged.
JUCY Snooze has a commitment to providing accommodation for environmentally-conscious travellers who care about their carbon footprint.
The hotel operates a recycling programme, recycling paper, plastics and bottles and encourages guests to participate in the scheme by providing easy to locate recycling bins.
Hotel staff are also familiar with the internal recycling scheme. Items of clothing and other goods left by the guests are donated to local city missions as part of the hotel’s commitment to social responsibility.
Guests have a key-card device that lets guests use electrical items only when they are in the room. Where possible, all lights have eco-friendly bulbs.
In other locations bulbs are chosen for their minimal energy use. As with many hotels these days the hotel encourages re-use of towels and sheets. As a result of less electricity being used this means fewer greenhouse gas emissions.
The hotel is centrally located so it is easy for guests to walk to the public transport bus, train or ferry station or walk to Queen St, the Vector arena and so on.
The hotel also provides educational information for guests in the form of the NZ Eco-Wise Travel Guide.
The hotel also offers guests a chance to add $1 to their stay to go towards a plant a tree programme to reduce greenhouse gases.
JUCY Snooze is committed to being an environmentally friendly hotel that helps to promote eco-consciousness amongst travellers.
Vector Arena, Sky City Casino and the Sky Tower, cosmopolitan Queen Street, Auckland University and the Central Transport Station are all within close proximity.
