New Zealand Zorbing - Spherical Madness
The Zorb is a proud New Zealand invention of the nineties. It is a recreational spherical device consisting of a transparent double chamber in which you can roll downhill. Zorbing is also referred to as sphereing.
The Zorb is a 3 metre giant plastic ball filled with air. This layer of air acts as a natural cushion preventing any injuries. You can scream your lungs out without getting hurt at all.
The inside of the Zorb consists of nine straps securing the rider firmly in place. It is rolled downhill and reaches speeds of upto 50 kmph.
A rider of a Zorb can be referred to as Zorbonaut. When you strap in and roll downhill, you attain maximum gravity and as you tumble head over heels, you attain weightlessness at the top of the Zorb.
At one instant of time, you see the blue sky and the next moment, you are plummetting downward and looking at green grass. At the end of such a ride, you are all pumped up and looking for more action.
A variation of the above includes zorbs without straps and the inner chanmber is filled with water upto the knees, with 3 people on board and rolled downhill. If you are able to stand upright right through, you do not pay for the ride.
It is just impossible with 3 people slithering and swishing around like fish in a pond. All you do is come out wet to the bone at the end of such an adventure.
It is like a spa on wheels with speed to boot. In winter, hot water is used to give you a refreshing outlook to life when you walk out of the Zorb.
Another variation is tumbling downhill in a zig zag fashion.
The world's first and only zorbing avenue in New Zealand is at Zorb Rotorua at Agrodome Leisure Park, Rotorua.
