New Zealand Car Rental Company Gets Dirty And Green
JUCY Rentals launched another green initiative with its Dirty Getaway on Monday, the 10th of December, 2007.
Tim Alpe, CEO of JUCY Rentals says- "We have been doing a lot of research on how can we make our fleet more eco-friendly and support tourism sustainability.
We have joined Green Fleet, introduced a number of green measures to reduce our carbon footprint, invested in Cityhop, New Zealand's first car share company with Victoria Carter."
"When we looked at the two largest areas of energy consumption - it was fuel emissions and cleaning. The next question that came to mind was - How do we combat this?"
"But we hit on the idea of offering our customers the chance to go dirty! It is a New Zealand first and is all part of JUCY's commitment to doing its bit for sustainability."
"While some tourism companies claim that their vehicles are cleaner than others we decided to be more pro-active", adds Tim.
The Dirty Getaway offers clients' a $10 discount off their hire if they take a car that has not been cleaned on the outside.
Adds Tim, "That does not mean the inside of the car is dirty. Our groomers are still providing clients with a clean car - it just may have some dust or dirt on the exterior".
According to Tim 75 per cent of new bookings were keen to go 'dirty'.
"We've spent a lot of time developing ways for JUCY to be a more eco-friendly tourism company. We are probably the only
New Zealand tourism company
in the City to have water tanks that collects water off our roof to clean cars", says Tim.
Tim thinks the idea will not be original for long. "We reckon other rental car companies will copy this idea quickly. We do not mind - it supports our environment, conserves water and energy so that all helps reduce our carbon footprint", said Mr Alpe.
